Your Score
What is BJCP scoring?
The Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) is the standard used by competitions worldwide. It breaks a beer down into five measurable areas. You don’t need to be an expert β just pay attention to what you’re tasting and smelling!
π Aroma
Stick your nose in the glass. What do you smell? Malt, hops, fruit, yeast character β and how pleasant and strong is it?
ποΈ Appearance
Hold the glass up to the light. Is the colour appealing? Is it clear or murky (for the style)? Does it have a nice head of foam?
π Flavour
This is the big one. Malt sweetness vs hop bitterness, any fruity or spicy yeast notes, and most importantly β is it well-balanced and does it linger nicely?
π¬ Mouthfeel
How does the beer feel in your mouth? Is the carbonation right β too fizzy, too flat? Does it feel thin and watery or rich and full? Any warming alcohol sensation?
β Overall Impression
Forget the details for a moment. Would you order another? Does it drink true to its style? Is it a beer you’d recommend to a friend?
π Tasting Notes (optional)
Jot down anything that stood out β faults, highlights, what it reminded you of.
